Freeflow maintained their unbeaten away record as they came from behind to defeat derby rivals Aldborough. However the performance was far from impressive in comparison to the performance against a much stronger Elim United team in the previous fixture.
The game started evenly with Freeflow trying to pass and move and Aldborough just playing a long, straight ball and un-creative scrappy game. After some anxious and unexpected moments in the Freeflow defense Jag got through on goal and tried to round the keeper who just got a hand to the ball. The game pattern followed a scrappy route which suited the home team and they opened the scoring after some horrible scrappy and typically English grass route football.
This was the best thing that could have happened to Freeflow as they sprung into life and piled on the pressure and Ahmed was hacked in the penalty area. Ahmed converted the spot-kick himself with power and this spurred Freeflow on to a furious flurry of attacks and goals bringing Aldborough back to reality. Ahmed who is in a rich vein of goal scoring form added his second and 9th goal in four games. Jag put Ahmed through and the forward showed frightening acceleration and power to get clear of the defender who looked favourite to win the ball, however Ahmed's unique top end speed enabled him to latch onto Jag's pass and then round the goal keeper and slot into an open goal, 2:1.
Aldborough persisted with the brainless long ball but at times they almost got in behind Freeflow's defense. Freeflow started to find some rhythm and looked dangerous. Manvir cut in from the left and hit a long range shot which went narrowly wide. Ahmed raced clear once more and again rounded the goal keeper, an unkind angle resulted in Ahmed hitting the near post but Jag was on hand to tap in the third goal with predatory ease, 3:1.
The game at this point was in its latter stages of the first half and Freeflow were controlling proceedings but not with the same style or quality as they produced against Elim United. They did have one moment of cheer brilliance and class though. Harjeet switched the ball intelligently into open space for Manvir on the left, Manvir beat one defender and sucked another in, he then crossed the ball into Jag's path who had made a clever run from out to in and Jag with his first touch guided the ball home into the far post with his left foot, 4:1 at half-time.
With the game seemingly won Freeflow made some experimental changes at half-time and were warned against complacency. They started the second half in the same way they finished the first half but poor finishing and a labored cutting edge denied them at least half-a-dozen more goals. Manvir, Faris and Liam were all guilty of missing good chances. The fifth goal did come as Manvir forced the ball home. It was hardly a great goal as Manvir twice struck the ball at the goalie and on the third attempt he tucked the ball into the corner. He did however maintain his personnel record of scoring in every league game so far.
Freeflow made more experimental changes to help boost the confidence of some and to just to try different things. The disappointng aspect was they slipped back into complacent mode and allowed Aldborough some cheap shots on goal. When in possession Freeflow ended the game in a sluggish fashion and due to the opposition getting sucked in so easily to the Freeflow player in possession, we never utilised the switch ball or just a simple change of direction. Aldborough did pull two goals back, and probably deserved them as they forced saves from Yigit and mist other opportunities.
Freeflow did respond with a late thrust and showed this was a game they played within themselves. There were notable performances though especially from Harjeet who played well in three different positions and used the ball intelligently. Aran and Faris who made their first appearances this season showed how their natural talent can add more creativity and class to the team. Generally Freeflow could have performed better as an attacking force, but the worry was how in the last two league games, from demolition score line situations they allowed the opposition a way back into the game.
