Freeflow secured a place in the Semi-finals of the cup with another impressive performance against Upminster. When Freeflow met Upminster last week the home team produced a devastating second-half performance, but on this occasion Upminster tried their up most not be so outplayed again. Despite this Freeflow produced a better performance from start to finish in terms of their football but they were also tested in defense.
Freeflow started this game better than the previous game but Upminster also were very up for the cup tie. Early on Drayton was put through after good link up play by Manvir and Kamel but Drayton scuffed his left shot wide. Drayton, Manvir and Jag caused the opposition problems with good movement and individual dribbling ability. Drayton did open the scoring as he punished Upminster high line in defense. A long direct ball by Ali released Drayton who showed great pace to race clear and finished with composure.
Upminster responded though as their busy and quick centre forward ran at the Freeflow defense on many occasions but Amandeep and Arjun were on hand to sweep up. Freeflow had produced a better performance in this first half than the previous first half against Upminster last week but failed to add to their dominance.
For the second half Freeflow were encouraged to keep on playing the same way and they were dominating the second half till Upminster equalised against the run off play as they capitalised from a left wing cross. 1:1. This obviously gave hope to Upminster but as in the last game Jag turned on the style to bring them back down to earth. Freeflow piled the pressure on in pursuit for a semi-final spot against rivals Warriors. After some neat inter-play by Manvir on the right Jag from 8 yards chipped the goalkeeper beautifully, 2:1.
Freeflow continued to attack and Jag rounded of a lovely counter attack. Kamel did well to switch the ball to Harj on the right and Harj showed great touch to release Jag through on goal. Jag raced clear and finished clinically, 3:1 and simple but lovely goal. The best was yet to come as Freeflow started to play Samba style football. Another counter attack this time found Faris just inside the opponents half but with his back to goal. With one touch of his left foot Faris flicked the ball behind to produce the most magical through ball to Manvir who charged through and finished in the corner to maintain his personal record of scoring in every game he has played in. It was the kind of moment only Faris could have produced despite his general play was lacking, he proved that form is temporary and class in permanent.
Freeflow at this point inspired by Faris's creativity, started to play keep ball and ole football. This seemed to anger the opposition as they showed moments of hostility towards Freeflow with some illegal tackles. Freeflow did however slip back into relax mode and conceded a silly goal to make the score line flattering for Upminster. Freeflow now meet Warriors in the Semi-finals as they continue their pursuit of the double.
