5-A side Football Tournament

Both the Under 11's and Under 13's (1) teams went out unfortunately of the Tower Hamlets Cup at the Semi-Final stage. The Under 14's went out at the group phase on goal difference but did well considering their Goal keeper Yight was unable to attend the event, and they ultimately rotated playing in goal as a result. The Under 13's (2) team went out at the Quarter-Final stage after dominating for long periods with eye catching free flowing football, but the woodwork and poor refereeing denied them a deserved Semi-Final spot.

Under 11's - SEMI-FINAL INJUSTICE!

The Under 11's were particularly unlucky as they dominated their semi, but were undone by a goal which should not have been allowed and were also denied a clear penalty appeal. The referee in this game was clearly on the side of Soul B, the opposition. Despite this, the under 11's should have taken their chances, as there were enough to turn the game around. The whole squad played well though, and all the outfield players scored in the tournament. The star performers from this squad were Anoop in Goal with some fantastic shot stopping at full stretch, Balraj who played on the flanks and in defense with a calm and controlled head and Jaffar, who scored in almost every game with clinical finishing, including a blistering free-kick

Under 13's (1) - SEMI-FINAL THROWN AWAY

The Under 13's led 2:0 in this semi and through the game away with a lack of concentration at the back. The game was turned around to 4:2 but then Freeflow missed a number of chances after complete dominance. They managed to pull a goal back to make the score 4:3, but this was too late in the end. They were unlucky, as the oppositions goals were due to moments of fortune and power play. However after leading 2:0, dominating, missing chances, failing to shoot regularly and mishaps at the back, they had the final in sight and threw it away ultimately. This was in harsh lesson and experience but a much needed one. Star performers for this squad on the day, Faris, with his magic feet and some great long range goals, Selim, buzzing with energy as always and Harvinder with his movement and close control, buying time and space for others.

Under 13's (2) - QUATER-FINAL FUSTRATION
The other Under 13's (U13 - 2) squad was on the opposite side of the draw to the U13 -1, and we were hoping for an all Freeflow final. This squad was led by the young Academy volunteer Toch Singh, only 16, and they won their group with ease after an 8:0 win, a 2:1 win and then after experimentation lost their final group game 5:2.

The Quarter-Final saw them against a team almost twice the size of them and with an obvious intimidating physical approach. However inspired by Taner and Judge they dominated the early exchanges and hit the post after some lovely inter play. Freeflow dominated the match, by playing quick one, two touch football to overcome their physical opponents. They then struck the woodwork again and then scored, but for the referee to disallow the goal unjustly. The referee generally had a poor game in this tie, by favoring the physical approach of the opposition, however the U13's continued to play lovely football and were undone in extra-time 2:0 after lapses of concentration.

It was a painful and frustrating end after the wrong team had won and it felt like an anti-climax after so much promise in round 1. Mentions must go to Taner, consistent as ever at a competitive level, Judge for scoring regularly, something he failed to do in the previous tournament, Harjeet too found the net and for the second tournament in row was great at the back and Adam as ever showed off his shot stopping skills. Albert deserves a special mention for playing well under pressure, and was outstanding in the Quarter-Final as he replaced the injured Harjeet.

Under 14's - EARLY EXIT AFTER KEEPER NO SHOW
The u14's keeper Yight failed to attend the event and this put a dampener mentally at the start for the squad. After the coaches discussed the options with the players the decision was made that the players would rotate playing in goal and just give it their best shot. We decided that Russell would guide this team as he is the Academy goal keeper coach.

Despite the early distraction they played well in the opening game and lost narrowly in a thriller 5:4. They turned it around in the second game with a thumping 7:0 win, with Manvir scoring five of the goals. Due to their groups dynamics, a win from the final game would secure qualification, and possibly even a draw would sneak them through. However after playing well in the final game they succumb to defeat again in a thriller this time loosing by 4 goals to 3. In the end goal difference would decide their fate, and by only one goal. It makes you wonder what would have happened if they had a keeper.

Special mentions must go to the squad though, Jaspreet playing outstandingly in goal, Amandeep was reliable as ever and Sunil found a scoring touch, all this after they both had just returned from Tenerife the night before. Kamel who is always developing chipped in with goals and Manvir, who has been guilty for missing chances previously, shone in front of goal this time.
