Another away friendly and against a team that finished top in their league the season previous, so this looked like being a real test. Aldersbrook's style of play was nothing new to the U13's, as it was the usual direct long balls and a physical approach. But it was this style of play which undone the U12's in the previous defeat at Valence.
Despite this Freeflow played to their strengths from the kick-off as they put a dozen passes together and worried Aldersbrook in the opening seconds. The freeflowing start continued as the away side dominated with quick passing up to the forwards who were denied by a very alert Aldersbrook goalkeeper. In contrast Aldersbrook played direct football and the long balls they played were all struck with pace and height consistently. From throw-ins and set pieces it was the same, with balls launched down the line or into the box.
But it was Freeflow who scored first, after some nice build play in midfield Harvinder picked the ball up on the edge of area, skipped past two defenders and slid the ball under the on-rushing goalkeeper into the far corner, 1:0.
Aldersbrook showed typical determination to fight back but Freeflow continued to dominate till the last moments of the first half. After failing to clear a corner from the right, a second cross came in from the left and after a scramble, the equaliser was poked in from close range, 1:1 and the type of goal Bolton would have been proud of.
The second period saw some substitutions for Freeflow and they continued to deal with Aldersbrook's direct style and when in possession Freeflow just lacked the final ball and finish. But that final ball and finish came from Taylor who centered from the left to Daniel who typically arrived late in the box. 2:1. The home team however equalised again from a set-piece. A corner delivered to the far post which was met nicely and headed down into the ground, 2:2.
Aldersbrook had played a physical closing down game to nullify Freeflow but this caught up with the home team in terms of stamina. The latter periods were dominated by Freeflow with Harpal, Balraj, Rajan and Selim showing how to be calm on the ball. Lewis had a goal disallowed for off-side which appeared debatable and then Taylor was taken out by the goalkeeper in the penalty area, but no penalty. A neat move looked like wining the match after clever inter-play from Rajan, Harvinder and Selim put Iyub through who lobbed the keeper and the ball agonisingly went over. The game ended 2:2 but had Freeflow used the ball better in the last third, mainly wide areas to stretch a very well drilled Aldersbrook back four the game would have been different.
