Freeflow under 13's produced a wonderful performance to tear Warriors U13's apart and record a thumping 9:0 victory. This was the first match the squad has played in a while and it appeared their frustration of waiting so long was taken out in a ruthless manor on the helpless opponents.
This would in the end prove to be a game against far inferior opposition but there were positives. This game showed how many players have improved over the last six months such as Jaffar, Iyub, Liam and Gurpreet. Taner who has endured a horrid long term lay-off with injury returned with a dazzling performance which was fantastic to see. The other notable performance was by Rajan who distributed the ball well and deserved a goal.
From the kick-off Freeflow were on the front foot and Warrior's defense had huge gaps in the opening seconds and Harvinder almost struck early. The first blow came in the second minute when Karendeep on the right played the ball infield and after a succession of passes Taner dribbled away from goal and beautifully struck his low accurate shot across the keeper. From the early moments it was clear this match was going to be one sided and Taner added a second as he cross come shot from a tight angle with the aid of the keeper made the score 2:0.
Freeflow continued to attack with intent and created openings at will. Akshay added the third goal with a well taken lob after clever passing in midfield by Rajan, Gurpreet and Taner. As the first half progressed Freeflow started to over play and complicate their football with too many passes and ambitious through balls.
Changes to the shape and personnel at half-term were made by Freeflow and it was a half in which the opposition truly capitulated. Jaffar, the youngest member of the squad found some great positions on the right but showed inexperience and nerves at the early stage of the half. Despite this he persevered and finished a well crafted move with a cool slotted finish under the keeper at the near post, 4:0. Jaffar then turned provider as he sold a beautiful dummy to the full back, left him for dead and squared for Iyub who tucked the ball under the goalkeeper. A lovely move and a moment of magic from Jaffar.
Iyub who was linking the play well with the wide players soon scored his second as debutant Eyman turned provider from the other flank, 6:0. Harvinder returned to the game in the latter period and he converted Karendeep's assist with brilliant accuracy. The kind of finishing that had eluded Harvinder in the first half in fact. Freeflow completely dominated the game and Warriors only offered hopeful clearances as their only form of attack.
Karendeep slotted the eighth goal home from close range with a cute angled finish with the inside of his foot after Warriors failed to clear a corner. Eyman rounded the game of with a wonderful individual effort. After receiving the ball on the left he glided past three defenders with ease and then rammed the ball home to finish a superb run and finish a completely one sided match.
The score should have been higher had the FFA players not over elaborated in the first half. The result obviously suggests the opponents were by far weaker than the academy team but the great thing was the home team never became complacent and arrogant in the second half. They played a simple short passing game which involved players playing one two touches, movement and use of the width.
Rajan dominated the center with his creative yet simple passing, Liam and Maninder helped Rajan control the midfield again with short quick passing. Liam especially showed how far he has come, always showing for the ball and always the playing a reliable game. Taner, Jaffar, Iyub, Karendeep and Eyman provided the class in the last third with nice footwork and ball skill. The build up play in the midfield then the these creative players in the attacking third was the major difference between the two teams and showed again where so many are going wrong at grass roots level in England.
Despite the impressive display, score line and individual performances the FFA players must understand the nature of the opposition will not always be the same and that every game is different.
